  • Deanna and Ryan, 2-21-09

Deanna and Ryan's wedding took place in Freeport this past Saturday, and it was a beautiful day. They couldnt have asked for much better, weather-wise, and their well-planned day went perfectly.
Deanna grew up in Maine, but she and Ryan live in Maryland. Deanna's parents live in Maine, and Deanna's mom is a wonderful seamstress. She sewed Deanna's wedding dress, and capes (lovely outerwear for being warm in style) for Deanna and all the bridesmaids. You'll see the capes in later photos, but here is Deanna in 'the dress'.
The wedding party got ready at the Hilton Garden Inn in Freeport, and although hotel furniture is usually not the most attractive, it turned out that the sofa in the hotel room looked great with the dress. I love how the pattern in the sofa is so similar to the pattern in the dress. And the wedding color was blue, so it was a perfect backdrop for a photo.

The ceremony took place at the Congregational Church on Main Street in Freeport. If you've ever been shopping in Freeport, you've been by it -- it's the church that's nestled right in amongst all the stores on Main Street. The inside of the post-and-beam church was decorated by sparkly twigs. One unusual thing about this wedding was that there were no flowers -- no bouquets (the girls carried muffs), and the decorations were wintry and sparkly -- very classy -- rather than flowery.

Oh -- another thing that was unusual was that Deanna, who is a beautiful singer and has sung at other peoples' weddings, started singing a cappella before she made her entrance into the chapel. The guests heard her voice before they saw her enter. She then entered, finished her song, and walked down the aisle with her father. It was beautiful and touching. The rest of the ceremony was equally touching and very personal.
The church had amazing stained glass windows at the rear...

After the ceremony, we did a few traditional photos at the altar and then the wedding party took off in the Hummer limo for a photo at the LL Bean 'boot'.

Deanna had gotten permission from the store beforehand to use/climb on the boot. After that we went to a little park that is actually tucked away in the back corner of the Hilton parking lot. It's a cool little park with paths and an ice rink and some bridges. For some of the group photos, I had to go off the path and (try to) walk through the snow to get where I needed to be. I kept breaking through the snow and ending up covered up to my knees over and over. Not real fun carrying camera equipment, but anything for the shot, right? Here are some of the romantic park photos with Deanna and Ryan. And you can really see how gorgeous her cape was.

Special thanks to my assistant, Sara, who also trekked around through the snow carrying lights for me. She was a trooper.
The reception was back at the Hilton, all sparkly and winter-wonderlandish. The staff there did an excellent job and Deanna and Ryan's DJ, Dave Dionne, was terrific as usual. I see Dave at so many weddings -- he's one busy guy! It's always a pleasure to work with him.

Deanna and Ryan incorporated a lot of unique ideas and a lot of themselves into their wedding. I could go on and on about their special touches. I have only just begun to work on their photos, but I promised them I would pick a few to put in my blog tonight so they could have a sneak peek while they are still in Maine. Deanna and Ryan, hope you like them so far!
